One of the most interesting Whiskey related stories in recent memory is the saga of the crates of MacKinlays Whiskey found underneath Shackeltons Hut in Antarctica. After more than a century on the ice, the Whiskey was recovered and taken to Glasgow, and in early 2011 master blender Richard Patterson from Whyte and Mackay set about trying to re-create one of the most iconic bottles of Whiskey in history.Whyte & Mackay has successfully recreated the century-old Whiskey buried under the Antarctic ice by famous explorer Ernest Shackleton. The companys master blender Richard Paterson spent a painstaking eight weeks marrying and blending a range of malts to get an exact replica of the 100-year-old Mackinlays liquid. The beautifully presented replicas (pictured left) that have been produced will be on sale worldwide soon - just 50,000 bottles created from a blend of whiskies from various distilleries around Scotland, including some from the rare and long closed Glen Mhor distillery, which the Mackinlay family used to own.
